Sowerby Bridge

Sowerby Bridge is a market town. It is also home to the deepest lock in the country. Tuel Lane lock is 19 feet 8.5 inches (6 m) deep. Market days are Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Tuesday and Friday are general retail, so fruit and veg, bread, gifts etc. Thursday and Saturday are second hand goods.

Kuja 7 Town Hall St, Sowerby Bridge HX6 2QG, T: 01422 831363 Cocktails, pizza and tapas. Vegan choices are a bit limited.

Gimbals – 76 Wharf St, Sowerby Bridge HX6 2AF T: 01422 839329 Modern British, at time of writing they were not doing eat in. But the food is too fantastic to miss them off the list. Heat and eat at home option on their website.

Happy Days – 18 Town Hall St, Sowerby Bridge, Halifax HX6 2EA T: 01422 836860 Bike shop, everything from new and second hand bikes, to parts and servicing.

There are loads of other shops, fruit and veg, offies, Tesco, Lidl, barbers and nail bars. Post office, opticians and doctors. Shire Cruisers have a small chandlery, but will order things in. They also sell the hand spikes, which you need to operate some of the locks on this stretch.
